The broad aim of my current research is to describe how Chiapas Zoque speakers speak about and conceptualise the three spatial domains: location, orientation and motion. Within this broad topic there are three sub areas that are of particular interest to me:
- The manner in which different linguistic frames of reference are expressed in Chiapas Zoque and what this potentially tells us about the development of frames of reference cross-linguistically
- The detailed semantics of motion verbs in Chiapas Zoque and the implications of these properties for notions of fictive motion
- The possible existence and nature of directionals and associated motion in Chiapas Zoque and the Mixe-Zoque languages more generally.
